Rituranga

In the choreography “Rituranga,” Pallavi Krishnan seamlessly blends descriptions of nature with the profound influence of seasons on the human mind. Through expressive movements, the dancers portray the vibrant imagery of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season evokes unique emotions, from hope and passion to introspection and serenity. The verses that introduce each of the six seasons are adapted from the celebrated work “Ritusamhar” by Sanskrit litterateur Kalidasa, and they are set to Sopana Sangeet, the traditional music of Kerala. Each season is elaborated with lyrics from Rabindra Sangeet, the musical compositions of Nobel laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore. While Kalidasa describes the emotions that the different seasons arouse, Tagore’s songs tell us about the diversity of the seasons as reflected in the many colours of nature.
Pallavi Krishnan, a leading exponent of Mohiniyattam in the national and international performance circuit, is acclaimed for her versatility as a performer, choreographer, and trainer. Initially, Pallavi earned her training in Kathakali and Mohiniyattam under Guru Kalamandalam Sankaranarayanan at Santiniketan.
